Page 78 - "Far too f-cking meta"
GND 078 - While Eponine, James, Javert, Christine, Erik, Jareth, Sarah & Legolas watch, Crowley wipes the comic of Edward and his implausible flawlessness while Aziraphale resets the garden party via cake, much to the delight of Toby.
Pika's text:
... I'm sorry?...
I did say this storyline was rather far out. I've probably been troping too much, also.
Az & Crowley, being occult/ethereal agents of the Powers That Be, are, canonically, very aware of the "behind the scenes" goings-on in their straight(-ish!) version of reality. And it had already been hinted that they've a similar awareness of the medium they are currently featuring in. They are far too canny to simply play along all the time.
Basically... Eddie-boy is too straight and simplistic a character to be an interesting addition to the GND-verse. And if that sounds big-headed of me, I'll put it another way: he was not gifted with the characterization and depth and narrative substance enough to go toe to toe with creations of truly magical Storytellers such as Jim Henson, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I'll credit Stephanie Meyer as an entertaining and mildly thrilling read, but she is simply not in the same league.
To put it yet another way : Edward Cullen is defined by being cool and mysterious and attractive and cool and dangerous and cool and yadda yadda yadda. Strip that away from him - because as Jareth and Erik well know, the Building''s Fail-field actively and sadistically gets in the way of any decent drama, emo, or angst, and is stingy with the allowance of coolness, also - and there's really not much left to play around with. Ridicule is utterly alien to his make-up, and that means he can hardly fit in with the tone of a silly fancomic.
If this episode confuses, bothers and disappoints you, I suggest you let Crowley mindwipe you and just forget it ever happened. I promise you that Fourth Wall damage and smartass disruptions will be kept in check for a while.
