Mako Mori
A Jaeger pilot-in-training, the adopted daughter of the marshal of the Pan Pacific Defense Force, and the savior of humanity.
Where is she from?
Mako Mori is one of the protagonists in Guillermo Del Toro's 2013 robots-fighting kaiju movie Pacific Rim. Mako stands out because she's a character that would probably be sidelined or relegated to a romantic subplot in any other movie, but here in Del Toro's capable hands she managed to carve out, in defiance of genre convention, her own arc and her own story. While this movie technically doesn't score too well on the Bechdel Test or other tongue-in-cheek feminist media tests, it has lead to the Mako Mori test; does the movie a) have at least one female character; b) who gets her own narrative arc; c) that is not about supporting a man's story.
