Madame Vastra
A Silurian (one of the lizard people that once ruled the earth but have been in hibernation underground for eons) that was awoken in the late 19th century in London. Vastra saved the life of the queen and earned the title of Madame, and now works as a detective, investigating the abnormal in Victorian London.
Where is she from?
The second showrunner of the new Doctor Who series, Stephen Moffat, had a penchant for adding new ideas to the show without really letting them have any sense of permanence or worldbuilding, so when we met Lady Vastra, an ally of the doctor and absolutely fascinating idea for a character, we didn't think she'd stick around. The show clearly recognizing that they had caught lighting in a bottle with this brilliant concept, though, because she and her cast of supporting characters like her maid and wife Jenny Flint were brought back over and over, and were always way more fun and exciting than the actual series. Vastra was played by british actress Neve Mcintosh, and she definitely deserved her own show.
