Meg Giry Appearances
Meg technically appears in Gaston Leroux's novel The Phantom of the Opera, but in the book she's not even given a first name. She's simply Madame Giry's daughter, and one of the girls in the ballet. Most renditions of the original story tend to leave her out entirely. In the Webber musical, however, she is Christine's close friend and confidant, serving the vital purpose of giving her someone to sing to. This means that there are far less versions of Meg for us to go through than other characters from Phantom, but it still bears a little looking at.
The original Meg in the 1986 Broadway production was Janet Devenish, who established the character as a doe-eyed innocent.
The 2004 Schumacher movie took the character in what seemed like a different direction by casting british glamour model Jennifer Ellison. Meg discovering the Phantom's lair at the end of the play was particularly expanded, giving her a small about of swashbuckling to do.
After doing a little googling and looking at different actresses that have played Meg, Deanna Doyle stood out as having played her both on Broadway and in the London cast. She seems like the closest aproximation to Meg as she appears in GND
