Lara Croft
An adventuring, tomb-raiding aristocrat and all-around bad-ass.
Where is she from?
Lara Croft is the main player character in the 1996 exploration & action game Tomb Raider, which became an international phenomenon because of it's revolutionary three dimentional gameplay... but it also helped that Lara became video game's first sex symbol just as the internet was gaining steam. She was played in the 2001 film adaptation Lara Croft: Tomb Raider by Oscar-winner Angelina Jolie, who took the task of becoming an action icon very seriously. She delivered a character that absolutely holds up as one of the best action heroes ever, even if the movie continued to insist that she needed to be eye candy.
The video game seres was updated in 2013 to tell the story of a younger, not-yet-an-action-archetype Lara, featuring a more cinematic, survivalist take on the character. This update was also adapted into a movie, 2018's Tomb Raider, again casting an Oscar-winner in Ex Machina's Alicia Vikander, who just like Jolie before her stepped up hard and delivered an extremely impressive action performance in a move that doesn't QUITE deserve her.
